Mike, also known as Dread Pirate Dad (yes, that’s a Princess Bride reference, and if you didn’t know that, well then to you I say; boooooooooooooo) is a life long fan of the Science Fiction genre. Whether it be more leaning toward the fantasy side of things (as discussed in previous episodes) or more into the ‘hard’ Science side of things.
Mike has gained a significant following on TikTok with his many videos and video series on movies, TV and other media. Even gaining the attention of THE Mark Hamill himself, with a tongue in cheek video which complained about some new users to the platform getting instant fame, while other have to work at creating content.
Mike’s TikTok feed is full of great insights into many Sci-Fi films, television shows, and book series. As well as other genres of media as well. With special focus on several ‘series’ of videos, including one devoted to Marvel and the MCU, Star Wars, The Wheel of Time television series, and – a personal favorite – Villain Ratings.

The content doesn’t just focusing on reviews of the media itself, though. It also dives deeper (even in 1-3 min segments) into the meaning and purpose of these types of art. As well as disrupting the status quo by calling out, and disproving many of the more ‘toxic’ points of view that many people claiming to be fans of the media seem to have and spread. Mike instead, spreads his positivity and joy for all types of media, while also addressing and condemning the ‘gatekeeper’ mentality into which far too many fans find themselves falling.

Mike was a huge blast to talk to about Time Travel in Science Fiction. So much so that half the recording of this episode ended up on the cutting room floor due to us randomly going off topic for long spells of great conversation; just not having to do with the subject of the hour. I truly hope you all enjoy his episode as much as I enjoyed creating it, and I truly hope that the Dread Pirate Dad will grace us with another visit in the future. We certainly proved that we both have plenty left to talk about! ~Eric
